Q-Dir - underestimated the File Manager
Anyone who has ever looked for a freeware file browser with multiple views, which is probably Q-Dir met. And perhaps it was he like me, the many windows rather confusing and one can not really benefits. Two panels for the back-and-her-copying are useful, that you know and love from the good old DOS Commander-times. But 4 windows? So what more confused. If you look at the manager, however, sets up a few steps to his own needs, then things look a different story.
Caveat: Q-Dir, which is available since yesterday, version 3.61 is freeware, and on request also portable applications. It's small, sleek, available in many languages. But most of all: the program can be configured very easily and has a lot of clever hidden details.

First . First of view, it is not necessary to divide the main screen in many sub-windows - if you only want two, get two. Or three. Or four. Superposition. Horizontally. Displaced. Customizable. I have set times in Figure 1 is an example: I wanted to have left the familiar directory tree for orientation, the right key 2-window comparison. In addition, I've set right down a "directory". Basically as a clipboard for files that I imagine from different directories for a project together. And the bottom left is a preview pane for images, movies, and so open.
Second Save sets. Each constellation that once you have become established, you can save (Graph 2). I can therefore define a view for the "normal" life with 2 windows, one for a project, another for project 2, a, etc., etc., for data backup
Third Multi-cultural filter Q-Dir is more than a "normal" filter to show only eg all * doc files.. I can define, for example, that I *. Doc plus *. Pdf * plus. Txt want to get displayed (where my Q-Dir even the annoying "*." Setting saves). And with another click, I can turn the filter - suddenly all the other files are displayed, not text files (for example, and want to move into the images directory.
4th Dynamic Tree View: At least for a widescreen monitor, it makes sense for a better visual orientation on the left show the familiar directory tree can be. Now there are file manager, where the "remains" static, even if you change the windows. Q-Dir changes, however, the tree immediately if you activate another window. Always obtained automatically for each window of authoritative directory section. But, and this is also different from other file managers, you can "rotate" and leave the directory itself, without having to activate the window.
5th Breadcrumbs as with Vista: First of all Q-Dir to expect from XP address bar is available, which is so important when paths with the mouse and want to copy. But even here there are some special features: you can choose, for example, if you want to have the address bar in each window, or rather above than a single row. There are also foldable part lists to facilitate a "rummaging" across multiple HDDs. But who would prefer to have the usual display in Vista with breadcrumbs - no problem, just switch. Now you can click directly on a path section. And even the possibility of having to show the path of each sub-section is given.
6th Additional Menus: There are a number of other little things that can discover. This allows a favorites list of folders to create, create a startup group, a zoom function is integrated, and - very useful - a chronicle of the current directory views, etc., etc. By the way: The squeakingly bright color schemes for individual file types can be changed to happiness or turn it off completely!
Conclusion: A file manager with often underrated potential that one should sometimes closer look (and the developer has introduced some fun name in the menus - at least I recommend if you like the menu item "coffee fund"

I'm the Q-Dir today (on 09/04/2011) pulled down to try - and - what can I say - just wow!

Since there are still so much - but everything - nothing has!
such as colored markings of files - so you can see right away what is, for example wav, - what mp3, - tif, or what - what jpg, - the colors can be set individually and assign course.
