Rainer Maria Rilke and the book glass

I

eBooks as no one knows ...

ch know, I know - even tech-savvy bloggers are committed to literature preferred to read between the "real" book covers. That's also fine with me and do not necessarily different. My third favorite place in the public, according to sidewalk cafes, bookstores. I love the combination of paper and coffee aroma.
No, I'm not a fan of long PDF files or disgusting-brittle cheap printer paper. These things I touch on only when it comes to information snippets or a short essay or otherwise can not be avoided.
But just because I like books, I like eBooks. And this "right". To be a real eBook for me texts that shine on my palm surface. Why is this so? Well, of course, I like the idea of standing lamp-light, combined with the flavor of the tea, red wine or whiskey and good winter Blanket - steeped in the soft papery leaves sides. But I know myself. Such moments I have maybe 2, 3 times a year. And the rest of the year? Since there are many times in the bus, tram and train. Queue times. Bad light-on-bed-time. Car passenger twilight times ... and ... and ...
My palm is backlit, even in total darkness I can see awarded. My Palm has a razor-sharp resolution. My palm I can, "longitudinal" and I take it an ideal line width. I can put in the software donkey ears, add colorful labels and attach notes.
But most of all, I can read texts that do not exist any more or awaken the memories. I would, for example, about ...

Buy now ... still a Karl May book and spend my evenings with it? "Pshaw!" Would say my old friend Old Shatterhand. But a few years of my childhood I spent 35 - 40 of these books to read. Now when I want to know again, what i thought at the time, I can just load the text on the Palm and go between two stops for a few minutes on the warpath. Or very old-dime-novel science fiction books (who knows in this age of "Space Rangers" and "Sailor Moon" have been Perry Rhodan?). It will be too simple? Well, pardon me, that I am very indifferent, because I read the books so for me - not for you ;-)
But please - I was not finished. The Project Gutenberg, the German version is now housed at SPIEGEL ONLINE, an almost limitless collection of texts. Some time ago, for example, are moved several works of Rainer Maria Rilke from there on my little pocket book endless. Therefore, I conclude now with a poem as "The Book of Images":

Memory

And you're waiting, expecting one thing,
this is your life infinitely more;
The powerful, uncommon,
the awakening of the stones,
Depths, you turned.

It dawn on the bookstand
Volumes in gold and brown;
and you think of countries being crossed,
on images of the garments
Fraunhofer lost again.

And as you know at once: that was it.
You get up, and stands in front of you
a past year
Fear and shape, and prayer.

Rainer Maria Rilke

    books on the palm? certainly one of the most useful of modern technology erungenschaften. I've been a staunch years of palm-trailers & co. space reasons alone made it an ideal alternative to "normal" book. and why is this
    form of worth reading very slowly? can book it on-the
    publishers are. what is the author and share what
    the cost for print? Perhaps you would with cell phone and playstation generation 'contemporary "reading in digital

    There are probably several factors, but is a very important, as you suspect, the policy of the publishers. To put it simple to express: Most of the influential people there are older and even did not grow up with the new media. This allows them to assess the opportunities and risks much worse. When a few years, the current issue of eBooks was, went straight to music-sharing platform Napster big because of the headlines. Publishers had (have) obviously animal fear that millions of surfers Günther Grass would suddenly get through file sharing :-)
    So was their first attention to hedge - so no copying, no printing, etc. allow. The second consideration was to offer not only eBooks - better safe than sorry. The third was to require the electronic versions for the same prices that cost the printed editions.
    Topped it all was the mantra would like repetition of his editors, that would not even demand eBooks and 99% of readers prefer paper copies.
    If it does, of course, such a timid and hesitant policy, determined to ruin the idea of the eBook.

    Herbert you're absolutely right. Which group would be his "sheep" away. Stated dimensions the course is the thing with the file-sharing and similar problems. But especially in the music industry (which is certainly suffer the greatest loss) tries to one to break new ground. Music downloads for a few € for example.
    And as to the willingness of potential customers amused me again and again the fact that hundreds of thousands of people download cell phone ringtones or logos for a lot of money, but are not willing to pay for a music-CD 15 or 20 €.
    Where this is the relation?
    By the way: Another thing about piracy. Would not "copy program", for example, Windows now so widespread?

    The EBook idea will prevail sooner or later, I'm convinced. What is still missing is the right strategy for customers and authors and publishers to convince them!

    It holds itself as a thinking man's head - which may just go into the brains of these employees prior to publishing ...!
