Julie, Julia, and a cookbook

Cooking experience

A man would voluntarily go to a movie that is about a cookbook? Never! Would he go to a movie that centers on a weblog and a cook? Maybe. And how about if the movie is about a cookbook, a weblog and a pretty girl? Well, what you have to lose? So on to Ulm Obscura and a professional look to "Julie & Julia" (Meryl Streep and Amy Adams) is thrown.
The story is quickly told, more precisely, the two actions. For one thing, we have since Julia Child ( Wikipedia ) a while nice, but actually colorless diplomat's wife in Paris in the '50s, there discovered her passion for cooking and finally a cook book [1] wrote that after the U.S. quite a success was.
And we have the nice New Yorker Julie Powell in 2002, seeks job in addition to their phones in public service task. Finally, she resorts to the aforementioned classic cookbook and decided with the approval of her husband, a year nachzukochen each recipe. An idea, a skin-not necessarily so from the stool, if by chance you do not live with her in the same household. But she wants to parallel their daily cooking experience in a web log ( original blog post). So what was in the year 2002, when blogs even in the United States were just beginning, a very smart idea.
The film jumps between the two Julias and forth, as far as very "nice" made (my personal favorite is actually Stanley Tucci , diplomat-husband of Julia, who is in his affection really touching), and who knows more about cooking than I it is perhaps also a bit exciting. I myself have noticed a different set of points:
First Already forgotten we have today with our computers, which used to be a painstaking detailed work, writing a book: rewrite carbon paper carbon copies, typewritten page after page ( Manuscript A of Child ), was when major revisions to make the resulting thick stacks of paper after years of work hopefully send a package to a publisher. Wait. Send new stack, etc., etc. Well, it took eight years to Julia, to her book project was ready for the market.
Second Then the simple, simple scene, as the diplomat in Washington before a McCarthy-Committee [2] was quoted as saying. He had been temporarily used in China, so in a communist country, which made him in the 50's "suspicious". To a hodgepodge of material that had collected about him and now piece together on your mood was. So those data collecting, the resurrection and explosive growth we are since 11 September experience here with us. If you treat your data like puzzle pieces, you can "convert" each man any thing ...
Third There were actually in the history of television time an epoch in the cookery programs served to learn something. As it stands, the real and the played, Julia then in a small studio with a stove and frying pan, showing the cholesterinverängstigten Americans how to make a omelette zubreitet [3]. The amazing thing is that after the short program you actually know what it takes ...
4th Blogs also started once at small: With no fancy design, no graphics, no YouTube videos. Text Only . Julie wrote and our work in the morning before their contributions, without some idea of whether someone is interested. Until now, until it is "discovered" - but that's another story ...

By the way: A good discussion of the film is also the blog "NutriCulinari" , which is generally highly recommended.

The film was recommended to me already from my sister in law from the United States. Since its taste is rather odd in terms films (she was "10,000 BC" very great ...) I had my doubts, but when the men blog reports about it already, I'm going to do once the movie to heart.

Well, if someone took 10,000 BC great, then I would agree also very suspicious :-)
As I said, expect not too much, but when you go in with a friend who understands what can one explain the cooking and in between, why this is so funny, if there is something in the pan collapses, he does have fun :-)

I must admit ... the film sounds to me at all not exciting, but I'm not a great cook-freak ... I'll probably send it purely just my girlfriend and hope that she cooks delicious after ;-)
